EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The U.S. Department of Justice, through its Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), awarded a grant in the amount of $13,698 to the City of Redondo Beach for the period October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2025. The grant funds will be utilized for Police Department equipment as authorized by OJP.
BACKGROUND
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program is the leading federal source of criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. The Redondo Beach Police Department has received Edward J. Byrne Memorial Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG) and Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) from the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance since 1996. The JAG allocation is based on Part I crime and population, and Redondo Beach has been approved for $13,698 in FY 2024. JAG distributes funds on a reimbursement basis, with no requirement for matching funds from local jurisdictions.
The grant funds can be used to support Police Department equipment, supplies, and programs which fall within the priority areas identified by OJP. Most recently, JAG funds were utilized to support the City’s automated license plate reader (ALPR) program.
COORDINATION
The grant award package, Certifications and Assurances Statement, and Resolution have been reviewed and approved as to form by the City Attorney’s Office.
FISCAL IMPACT
The JAG award is fully funded by the U.S Department of Justice through its OJP. The funds are paid on a reimbursement basis, with no additional requirement for matching funds from the City.
