ADOPT BY TITLE ONLY RESOLUTION NO. CC-2309-093, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE OFFICIAL BOOK OF CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF RECREATION COORDINATOR
end
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City maintains an official book of class specifications for positions in the service of Redondo Beach. Pursuant to Article 6, Chapter 3 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code, as recruitments for open positions are initiated, class specifications are reviewed and updated to validate current job duties, responsibilities, and qualifications. Staff is recommending the adoption of the attached Resolution amending the job specification for the Recreation Coordinator position in the book of class specifications.
BACKGROUND
This action is recommended pursuant to Section 2-3.502 of Article 5 and Section 2-3.603 of Article 6, Chapter 3, Title 2 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code, which authorizes the Mayor and City Council to set forth from time to time the class titles and specifications for job classifications.
The Recreation Coordinator position is housed in the Community Services Department and serves an essential role of proposing, developing, and implementing recreational programs, activities, and events. This position is critical in maintaining a multitude of recreational programs and activities for all ages including participation in the recruitment, interview, selection, and training of the Department’s part-time employees. This position also administers and provides reservation oversight for the City’s parks and facilities.
Previously, the job specification for the Recreation Coordinator was approved by the City Council on December 5, 2000, per Resolution CC-0012-147. Since then, the Community Services Department has had three Recreation Coordinator positions that have remained filled. The adopted FY 2023-24 budget provided funding for three additional Recreation Coordinator positions through the reclassification of two existing Department positions and the addition of one new Coordinator.
A review of the class specification revealed that it needed to be modernized to align with contemporary job functions and to include the variety of services provided by incumbent Recreation Coordinators. The changes have been reviewed and discussed with the existing staff members and the Redondo Beach City Employees Association.
COORDINATION
Modernizing the classification specification for the Recreation Coordinator has been coordinated with the Community Services Department, Human Resources Department, and with representatives of the Redondo Beach City Employees Association.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with modernizing the Book of Class Specifications.
