EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The City annually applies for grants administered by the Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) for the Used Oil Program to implement eligible projects.  The City of Redondo Beach has been awarded $9,643 in FY 2025-26 grant funds.  Approval of the Resolution will allow for the appropriation of the grant funds to the City’s Intergovernmental Grants Fund where it will be used to inform and help educate the community on safe oil disposal.

BACKGROUND

Annually, the Public Works Department applies for funding from CalRecycle’s Used Oil Grant Program.  The City was awarded a FY 2025-26 allocation of $9,643.  The grant provides funding for California local governments to support programs, outreach and education regarding safe used oil disposal.  The City typically uses the money for targeted outreach through newspaper ads highlighting proper disposal of used oil and advertising locations for used oil drop off. Funds are also used for purchase of used oil absorbent materials and products used by City departments, most specifically the Public Works, Fleet Division.

If approved, the Resolution will appropriate the funds to the Intergovernmental Grants Fund for use by the Public Works Department for approved programs and outreach.

COORDINATION

In accordance with City policy, the Public Works Department will coordinate grant administration with the Financial Services Department.  The Resolution has been approved as to form by the City Attorney’s Office.

FISCAL IMPACT

Approval of the Resolution will appropriate $9,643 in Used Oil Program grant funds to the City’s Intergovernmental Grants Fund.

Mike Witzansky, City Manager
