BACKGROUND
In accordance with Redondo Beach Municipal Code 2-9.101(b), Commission subcommittees must consist of fewer members than a quorum (no more than three members of the seven-member Commission), have a defined termination date and/or terminate upon the completion of a specific task or purpose, and report back publicly. Subcommittee tasks shall also align with City Council direction. Subcommittee updates may be provided at the end of the meeting agenda under “Commission Member Items and Future Commission Agenda Topics.” Subcommittees may represent the Commission externally only with the approval of the City Council, the City Manager, or the staff liaison with the approval and/or direction of the City Manager.
The Harbor Commission currently has four subcommittees: Mast-Up Boat Storage, Waterfront Education Center, Seaside Lagoon, and Boat Launch. At the September 14, 2026 Harbor Commission meeting, the Commission discussed filling open subcommittee positions and appointed Commissioner Coller as a member of the Boat Launch Subcommittee, as he previously served as an alternate. The remaining appointments were tabled to this meeting. The current members for each subcommittee are included below:
• Mast-Up Dry Boat Storage
o Members: Chrzan, Falk
o Task: Evaluate possible locations within and around the harbor for mast-up dry boat storage
• Waterfront Education Center
o Members: Abelman, Bauer, Coller
o Task: Ensure a local non-profit education organization is welcomed as a partner
• Seaside Lagoon
o Members: Chrzan, Falk
o Task: Provide feedback, comments, and recommendations to city staff and the contracted consultant designing the renovated Seaside Lagoon
• Boat Launch
o Members: Chrzan, Bauer, Coller
o Task: Provide insight and comments to City staff on the new public boat launch on Mole D
This item has been prepared to provide the Commission an opportunity to consider the creation of new subcommittees or dissolution of existing ones, define the task and end date for each, and fill vacancies by appointment via majority vote.
