ADOPT BY TITLE ONLY RESOLUTION NO. CC-2410-102 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE SUSPENSION OF PREFERENTIAL PARKING HOURS IN THE VINCENT AND VINCENT 2 PREFERENTIAL PARKING DISTRICTS ON NOVEMBER 1, 2024
end
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Staff recommends that the City Council allow parking to the general public in the Vincent and Vincent 2 Preferential Parking Districts on November 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM to accommodate attendees of the Redondo Union High School Homecoming football game.
BACKGROUND
The City Council has previously approved the suspension of preferential parking districts on the north and south sides of the Redondo Union High School campus for certain special events held at the school facility. The Vincent District (including the 600 & 700 blocks of Vincent St and the 100 and 400 blocks of El Redondo) restricts parking from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. The Vincent 2 District (including the 800 through 1100 blocks of Vincent St and the 200 blocks of N. Lucia, N. Juanita, and N. Irena Avenues) restricts parking from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM Monday through Friday and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Saturday.
The Redondo Union High School Homecoming football game will take place at the Sea Hawk Bowl on the Redondo Union High School campus on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 7:00 PM. The Police Department anticipates over a thousand attendees, many of whom will park on the south side of the school in the Vincent and Vincent 2 preferential parking districts.
Pursuant to section 3-7.1701 of the Municipal Code, the City Council may revise the hours of the preferential parking districts. Staff requests City Council suspend the parking restrictions in the Vincent and Vincent 2 Preferential Parking Districts on November 1, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM to allow attendees to park in these areas freely to attend the Redondo Union High School Homecoming football game. Staff believes that issuance of citations during this event would not be in the best interest of the community.
COORDINATION
The Police Department coordinated the preparation of the Resolution with the City Attorney’s Office. The suspension of parking restrictions for the 2024 RUHS homecoming game was proposed at the most recent City Council and Redondo Unified School Board Subcommittee meeting and is supported by each of the Subcommittee members.
FISCAL IMPACT
