BACKGROUND
Parks and Recreation
The following items are provided as updates and general information regarding recreation and park-related items under the purview of the Public Amenities Commission (Commission):
Spring Classes, Camps, & Activities and Summer Camps
Registration for spring classes & camps as well as summer camps began on Monday, February 23 for residents and Monday, March 2 for non-residents. Additional information can be found at the following link:

Wilderness Pond Lower Pond Restoration Project
A ribbon cutting event was held on Thursday, March 19. It was an amazing event that celebrated the collaborative work between the city and the South Bay Parkland Conservancy in reopening the lower pond. The restored area is open to any visitors to the park, so we welcome all to come and visit!
Upcoming Events & Activities
• Story Time in the Park - this monthly event will be held on Sunday, April 12 from 1:00 to 1:45pm at Wilderness Park near Pine Camp.
• Earth Day 2026 - the annual Earth Day event, presented by the South Bay Parkland Conservancy, will be held at Wilderness Park on Saturday, April 18 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. This event is free, open to all ages, and will include educational seminars, nature walks, activities & crafts, music, food, and presentations by local environmental groups.
The following information is provided as updates following recent inquiries from the Commission regarding recreation and park-related projects and initiatives:
Alta Vista Pickleball Tennis & Pickleball Courts Project
A ribbon cutting event for the city’s first dedicated pickleball courts was held on Wednesday, March 18. Community members, staff from multiple departments, and pickleball enthusiasts enjoyed the ceremonial event, which concluded with friendly games of pickleball.
Historical Museum
Historical Museum information will be provided as a Blue Folder item prior to the meeting.
