RECEIVE AND FILE UPDATES AND GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING RECREATION AND PARKS-RELATED ITEMS

end

BACKGROUND

The following items are provided as updates and general information regarding recreation and park-related items under the purview of the Public Amenities Commission:

Dale Page Park

At the October 7 meeting, Chairperson Yousufzai requested an update regarding his concerns with E-bike use on the interior sidewalks at Dale Page Park, which were causing safety concerns between park users, including children, and E-bike riders.  Staff has connected with the Police Department to inform them of the concern. Additionally, staff is confirming whether there is an existing ordinance that outlines E-bike use in parks, which would further help enforcement or provide guidance on potential gaps in the policy.  Additionally, the Public Works team was also consulted and suggested that infrastructure updates, such as a split pathway that would delineate between pedestrians and E-bike riders along with designated signage, could be considered.  Community Services staff will continue these interdepartmental conversations to find a long-term plan.

Pickleball

Following comments made at the October 7 meeting, staff made updates to the pickleball webpage on the City’s website.  Specifically, these updates included individual task information and project updates regarding Alta Vista Park, which was approved by the City Council for the installation of four (4) pickleball courts.  Staff will continue to update the pickleball webpage when progress is made on this project or the future pickleball facility at Aviation Park.
