BACKGROUND
The Teen Center would like to host a teen social exclusively for high school-aged teens this fall at Hopkins Wilderness Park. The event would include outdoor activities such as a movie screening, a bonfire with s’mores, music, optional games/ raffle, and time to hang out with friends. The goal of the event is not just the showing of a movie, but rather the creation of an experience that gives teens something fun to do together, gets them outside, and creates a memorable night at the park.
Ad Hoc Subcommittee
In order for the event to be as successful as possible, staff requests the Youth Commission (Commission) create an ad hoc subcommittee (Subcommittee) that would assist staff in the planning and implementation of the event. This Subcommittee would meet periodically to discuss event details and logistics and would be instrumental in providing valuable feedback, support, and outreach.
Input on Event Details
In addition to the development of a Subcommittee, staff requests the Commission provide input on the following key event details to help garner the most enthusiasm and attendance and to provide framework for the Subcommittee and staff to further plan the event:
1. Date of Event - Saturday, October 3 or Friday, October 9
a. Please note event time would be 5:30 - 9:45pm
2. Name of Event - consider attention-grabbing names, including, but not limited to:
a. Flicks & Fire: Fright Night
b. Movies Under the Stars
c. Moonlight Movies
d. Under the Stars: Teen Night
3. Event Promotion - provide input on best ways to promote the event to ensure it is shared widely
4. Movie Suggestions - input on movie options to screen. Movie must be rated PG-13 or lower. Input could include specific movie titles or preferred genres (i.e. horror, comedy, etc.)
