EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This Agreement for Legal Services with Meyers Nave will update hourly fees and scope of legal services provided.
BACKGROUND
The City Attorney’s office maintains a list of approved law firms and attorneys from which to select when special expertise is required on legal matters. Meyers Nave has been on the approved list since 2006. The City entered into a recent Legal Services agreement with Meyers Nave on May 9, 2023 but that agreement only covered real estate legal services. This new agreement would allow the provision of any legal services assigned by the City Attorney’s office and update rates.
Meyers Nave is a full-service law firm, providing legal and regulatory experience in virtually all areas of law that impact public and private entities operating throughout California. Many of the firm’s attorneys and practice groups receive local, state and national recognition for their results and expertise.
According to Law360, “Meyers Nave has flexed its muscle in the areas of the environmental law, labor and employment, land use, eminent domain and constitutional law. Meyers Nave’s ability to get large projects completed, secure major litigation wins and resolve crises landed the firm a spot among Law360’s California Powerhouses.”
Meyers Nave’s attorneys regularly try cases in state and federal courts, with a win record that includes numerous precedent-setting published appellate court decisions and landmark victories before the California Supreme Court. Meyers Nave’s litigation skills are also demonstrated in successful administrative proceedings before a broad range of regulatory bodies. Meyers Nave’s transactional attorneys have drafted, negotiated and completed a comprehensive scope of innovative contracts, agreements and other arrangements for public and private clients.
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the Legal Services Agreement with Meyers Nave.
COORDINATION
The Agreement has been approved by Meyers Nave and has been approved as to form by the City Attorney’s Office.
FISCAL IMPACT
This Agreement for Legal Services for Meyers Nave will update rates that have not been updated since 2023. Rates for Principals are $600, Of Counsel are $580, Sr. Associates are $480, Associates are $430, Paralegals are $225, and ESI Discovery Attorneys are $400.
