EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The extension of the Affiliation Agreement with the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care continues the training relationship between UCLA and the Redondo Beach Fire Department. Under the Agreement, the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care provides the RBFD with a Continuing Education Nurse, educational resources, and quality improvement services that allow the Redondo Beach Fire Department to maintain compliance with Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency (LAEMSA) requirements mandated for all EMS providers in the County.

BACKGROUND
The California EMS Agency requires all paramedics within the state to complete 48 hours of continuing education, in a 2-year period, in order to maintain licensure. In accordance with this mandate, the LAEMSA applies the 48-hour continuing education requirement to all practicing paramedics within the County of Los Angeles. Additionally, the LAEMSA requires 24 hours of continuing education, in a 2-year period, for EMTs to maintain certification.

The Affiliation Agreement with the UCLA Center of Prehospital Care provides a Continuing Education Nurse to provide all Redondo Beach Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMTs with the required training to fulfill State and County continuing education requirements.
