DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING NOMINATIONS AND ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
end
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Per § 2-9.101 of Redondo Beach Municipal Code, “Each board or commission shall meet as soon after the first day of October of every year as practical for the purpose of organizing. At such organization meeting, or in the first meeting after a vacancy in the chairperson or vice chair position is declared, the boards and commissions shall organize themselves by electing one of its members to serve as chairperson and one member to serve as vice chair for the ensuing year.”
PROCEDURE
Excerpt regarding nominations from the Code of Conduct (Section 4.4.5):
“During an agenda item that requires nominations for a position and vote for the position, nominations may be made by any Member of the Body, including the Chair. No second is required for a nomination. A motion to close nominations may be made by any Member of the body at any time. If seconded, this requires one vote more than the majority of the Members present to carry. The Chair will then conduct a vote on each nomination (the Mayor does not get a vote on this item, but a commission Chair does). If more than one nomination is made for a specific position, the nomination with more votes carries. In the case of a tie, the Mayor will cast the tie breaking vote for a City Council vote. If there is a tie on a commission vote, a coin supplied by the staff liaison would be flipped by the City Clerk or City Clerk’s designee to determine the winner. There is no public testimony on agenda items regarding nominations.”
