EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In September 2019, the Redondo Beach Unified School District (RBUSD) began contributing $100,000 per year to the City to partially fund a Redondo Beach Police Officer to work exclusively at Redondo Union High School. This Agreement has provided a dedicated Police Officer at the school that is stationed in close proximity to the campus and able to respond to calls for service or other onsite incidents.
This third amendment will extend the collaboration for an additional two years, through June of 2027, and continue the proactive engagement between the Police Department and the students and staff of Redondo Union High School.
BACKGROUND
The Redondo Beach Police Department has assigned a Police Officer as the designated School Resource Officer (SRO) for Redondo Union High School for a number of years. The SRO position has been considered the primary responder to calls for service related to incidents that occur at RBUSD campuses. Additionally, this collaboration improves school safety while building stronger relationships and engagement opportunities with students and staff. In 2018, an additional SRO was added to the Police Department Community Services Unit with a focus on the middle and elementary school campuses in RBUSD. This additional assignment of personnel allowed for a primary responder and point of contact for Redondo Union High School, along with the middle and elementary schools.
