BACKGROUND
At the Harbor Commission meeting of August 10, 2026, the Commission voted 7-0 to place the topic of identifying designated fishing areas in the waterfront on the September 14, 2026 agenda. This item has been prepared to provide the Commission an opportunity to discuss current fishing regulations.
Under the Redondo Beach Municipal Code (RBMC), fishing areas within King Harbor are designated by the Waterfront Director and identified through posted signage (RBMC Section 12-1.309, 12-1.310, and 12-1.315). Fishing from piers and wharves is generally permitted, subject to certain restrictions, except in areas specifically designated as “no fishing” for safety reasons (RBMC Section 12-2.09). Staff has not identified an existing comprehensive map of designated fishing areas.
