EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Construction of the North Redondo Beach Bikeway Extension, Job No. 41250 (Project), is now complete and ready for final acceptance. If approved, a final change order for urgent work already completed can be executed with final payment being made to KASA Construction, Inc. This would be followed by typical project closeout procedures. The change order work was necessary to urgently protect City, Southern California Edison (SCE), and private property from erosion and runoff debris.
Prior to this requested change order, the Project included change orders totaling $219,840, including a City requested change to add six solar lights to a previously unlit portion of the bikeway. Presently, a final change order has been negotiated with the Contractor in the amount of $72,293 to install erosion mitigation on an area of the Project that was previously not permitted to be improved per SCE. After experiencing winter rains and erosion of soil from the area, and upon hearing numerous complaints from residents and City staff, SCE reversed course and allowed the City to make the improvements to this area. City Council has heretofore authorized the City Engineer to approve change orders up to a total of $270,485.
