BACKGROUND
At the January 22, 2025 meeting of the Cultural Arts Commission (CAC), the submitted designs of five artists were selected to complete art wraps of five utility boxes, one in each of the five City Council Districts, including:

Unfortunately, the established fabricator/installer, Spin Imaging, determined that the Districts 2, 3, and 5 designs were of insufficient resolution to be successfully enlarged to full scale, despite their generous attempts to assist the artists. As a result, Christine Williams and Richard Rayner withdrew from participating in the program. Unfortunately, staff has been unable to connect with Colleen Murphy and have deemed her design incompatible with the requirements of the program. Spin Imaging requires at least five boxes for reach round of installation, so staff requests the commission consider the selection of three new designs to complete the latest set of five utility boxes.
In the previous selection round, the CAC each made selections of finalists totaling 20 individual shortlisted artworks, from which the previously noted five were selected. Artists for the 15 remaining artworks on the shortlist were contacted to determine if their submissions were still available and if the artists still wished to be considered for a commission.
