EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The proposed ordinance was approved for introduction and first reading on July 9, 2024 and is now ready for second reading and adoption. The Ordinance, if adopted, will amend the Redondo Beach Municipal Code (RBMC) to repeal Sections 2-9.201 through 2-9.303 and Sections 2-9.1101 through 2-9.1203 regarding the Historical, Preservation, Library, and Recreation and Parks Commissions, and add Sections 2-9.1501 through 2-9.1503 consolidating the responsibilities of these commissions into the Public Amenities Commission.

BACKGROUND
On May 7, 2024, the City Council directed staff to move forward with changes to the City's existing Boards and Commissions that would eliminate certain boards, consolidate and adjust the purview of select commissions. The City of Redondo Beach currently has 15 boards and commissions that serve the community by providing valuable insights to the City Council on a wide range of policy issues. While the large number of independent bodies offers a diverse range of subject matter, it has become difficult to staff the vacant seats, and prepare substantive agendas for each commission on a monthly basis. As such, the City Council has approved a plan to consolidate, or alter the purview, of select commissions in order to provide serving commissioners with a wider range of topics to address during their monthly meetings.
