EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB) is a consortium comprised of 11 South Bay Cities that provides job training and placement services to residents and supports local businesses with their employment needs. The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce has nominated Mr. Faisal Hashmi of Farmers & Merchant Bank, to serve an additional term on the SBWIB as a representative of the Redondo Beach business private sector. The SBWIB has requested the City Council's approval of this nomination. If approved, Mr. Hashmi would serve a four-year term from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2030.
BACKGROUND
The SBWIB provides job training and placement services to laid-off and unemployed workers residing in the South Bay. SBWIB partners with education, training, and non-profit organizations to support local businesses with their employment needs. SBWIB programs are primarily funded by federal, state, and county grants and are offered at no cost to job seekers and businesses. The 11 cities that comprise the SBWIB include Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Torrance, and Lomita.
The SBWIB has requested that the City Council approve the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce's nomination of Mr. Faisal Hashmi to serve an additional term of office on the Board. Mr. Hashmi is the Vice President and Branch Manager of Farmers & Merchants Bank. He has been an active member of the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce since 2019 and served as its Chair from 2020 to 2021. He has also served on the SBWIB board since 2019.
