EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On May 7, 2024, the City Council directed staff to move forward with changes to the City's existing Boards and Commissions that would eliminate certain boards, consolidate and adjust the purview of select commissions, and update Title 2, Chapter 9, Article 1, Section 2-9.101 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code to allow for the implementation of an updated process to cancel upcoming commission meetings.

The Ordinance being introduced at this time addresses the consolidation of the Historical, Library, Preservation, and Recreation and Parks Commissions into a single Public Amenities Commission.

BACKGROUND
The City of Redondo beach currently has 15 boards and commissions that serve the community by providing valuable insights to the City Council on a wide range of policy issues. While the large number of independent bodies offers a diverse range of subject matter, it has become difficult to staff the vacant seats, and prepare substantive agendas for each commission on a monthly basis. As such, the City Council has approved a plan to consolidate, or alter the purview, of select commissions in order to provide serving commissioners with a wider range of topics to address during their monthly meetings.
