California Water Service Group (Cal Water) provides an annual Firefighter Grant Program that awards charitable donations to "offset costs associated with fire protection efforts, life-saving equipment, and training." The Fire Department applied for this award and received a $38,400 donation to support its cognitive performance coaching program for the Fire and Police Departments, facilitated by Sharp Performance, Inc. (Sharp Performance).
Approval of this item would fund 50% of the Fire Department's cost to utilize the Sharp Performance program for three years.
BACKGROUND
Sharp Performance provides a unique platform that consolidates coaching, training, and customized resource management exclusively designed for high-risk professionals. The platform's content and methodologies are rooted in evidence-based practices developed with the U.S. Military's Special Operations teams and are uniquely adapted to meet the needs of first responders. Users connect with a roster of highly-trained performance coaches, each experienced in working with individuals operating in high-stress environments. Their approach is proven to resonate with public safety personnel, and seeks to build a supportive culture that encourages individuals to seek help without fear of stigma.
