BACKGROUND
On June 11, 2024, City Council adopted an amendment to Title 2, Chapter 9, Article 1,
Section 2-9.101 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code allowing for a commission’s next monthly meeting to be canceled for lack of business. A commission may take this action only by a majority vote of its members during the regular meeting that immediately precedes the meeting to be canceled. The Chair or Secretary of the commission would then have to announce the cancellation as well as provide the reasons for the cancelation.
According to the Administrative Report (attached), City Council adopted the amendment in order to give commissioners the ability to cancel upcoming meetings in an effort to improve the substance and impact of commission meetings that are held.
Currently, there are no pending discussion items for the Historical Commission to consider on August 21, 2024. This item gives the Commission the opportunity to define the items it wishes to discuss at its August 21, 2024 meeting or to cancel it due to “lack of business.”
