EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Following a July 21, 2026 discussion, City Council directed staff to revise the City’s hedge ordinance based on their recommendations. Staff distributed a draft to City Departments for feedback and presented the updated version to City Council on September 1, 2026. The ordinance amendments successfully passed their first reading on September 8, 2026, and are now before Council for a second reading and adoption.
BACKGROUND
On September 8, 2026, City staff introduced an enforcement-focused amendment to the hedge ordinance rather than a zoning modification. These changes will be codified in Chapter 38 of Title 4 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code (RBMC), as well as Penalty Sections 1-2.01 and 1-2.03. Title 10 will be updated later for consistency. The proposed ordinance changes reflect the recommendations of Council and City staff and, if adopted, will become effective in thirty (30) days, on October 15, 2026.
