EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Redondo Beach Municipal Code (RBMC) 2-9.602 outlines a requirement for the Youth Commission (Commission) to provide semi-annual reports to the City Council regarding needs and priorities of the City’s youth.  This item provides  an opportunity for members of the Commission to present the first report to the City Council for 2026.

BACKGROUND

In 2025, the City Council adopted ordinance changes that restructured the Commission and provided opportunities for the Youth Commission to present its work to the City Council.  RBMC 2-9.602, which outlines the duties and purpose of the Youth Commission, includes a requirement for the Commission to provide semi-annual reports to the City Council regarding needs and priorities of the City’s youth relating to City policies and projects.

This presentation will serve as the first report from the Commission in 2026 and includes critical items selected by the Commission that are reflective of its work throughout the current term.  Members of the Youth Commission will make the presentation at the May 19 City Council meeting.

COORDINATION

The Community Services Department coordinated the preparation of this item with the Youth Commission.

FISCAL IMPACT

Preparation of this report is part of the Department’s annual workplan and is included in its Operating Budget for FY 2025-26.  There is no additional fiscal impact.
