EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On September 5, 2019, the City received and publicly opened two bids for the Playground Rubberized Surface Replacement Project, Job No. 30760. After reviewing the bids, R. E. Schultz Construction, Inc. was found to be the lowest responsible bidder with a bid in the amount of $234,800 and should be awarded the project contract.
BACKGROUND
Funding for the Playground Rubberized Surface Replacement Project, Job No. 30760, was included in the FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 CIP. The rubberized surfaces in the Gregg Parkette, Franklin Park and Alta Vista Park play areas are aging, deteriorating and in need of replacement. The project scope includes replacement of the playground rubberized surfacing system, including aggregate base, in the Gregg Parkette, Franklin Park and Alta Vista Park play areas.
On August 8, 2019, the City Clerk advertised the project for competitive bids.
On August 22, 2019, the City held a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting at the Franklin Park site, with one (1) prospective bidder in attendance. Subsequent to that meeting, the City issued Addendum No. 1 on August 27, 2019.
On September 5, 2019, the City received and publicly opened two bids for the project. After reviewing the bids, R. E. Schultz Construction, Inc. was found to be the lowest responsible bidder with a bid amount of $234,800. Therefore, staff recommends awarding the project contract to R. E. Schultz Construction, Inc. in the amount of $234,800.
COORDINATION
This project has been fully coordinated with the Community Services and Public Works Departments. The City Attorney’s Office approved the Resolution as to form.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City Council has directed staff to continue the Play Surface Replacement Project as a multi-year project. Therefore, any funds remaining at the close of construction will be carried over for the next round of play surface replacements.
