RECOMMENDATION
Discussion and possible action on the selection of five (5) locations for Phase V of the Utility Box Public Art Program.

BACKGROUND
On April 20, 2021 City Council approved the Public Art Commission's artwork selection for ten utility boxes for Phases III and IV of the Utility Box Public Art Program. To continue moving forward with the program, the Commission may discuss the selection of the next five utility box locations, one for each of the districts. Attached to this report is the September 23, 2020 Power Pt. presentation with photos of utility box locations and a spreadsheet outlining locations, the number of utility boxes at each location and artist information. The next step is for the City to enter into agreements with the artists and to secure permission/permit from CalTrans for the District 4 Artesia and Hawthorne location.
It should be noted that, of the five utility box locations to be chosen for Phase V of the program, two require special consideration. Both the artwork and location will be chosen at this meeting.
* District 3 - 190th and Prospect (large box): At the January 27, 2021 meeting, the Commission voted unanimously to have Interim Director Koike inquire with artist Eric Michael to see if he would be interested in submitting ideas for a companion piece for the existing "Boundaries" artwork that was installed on the adjacent small utility box in 2018. Artist Eric Michael is interested in creating a companion piece to the small box and has submitted three concepts, which are attached to this report.
