title
APPROVE THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, ON BEHALF OF THE UCLA CENTER FOR PREHOSPITAL CARE PARAMEDIC EDUCATION PROGRAM TO EXTEND THE TERM TO OCTOBER 31, 2026 AT NO COST TO THE CITY.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The extension of the Affiliation Agreement with the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care continues the relationship between its Paramedic School Student Internship Program and the Redondo Beach Fire Department. The Redondo Beach Fire Department cooperates with local paramedic training programs to provide their students with the opportunity to ride along on emergency medical calls. This experience enhances their learning, and is likewise beneficial to our Paramedics.

BACKGROUND
The extension of this Affiliation Agreement continues the mutually-beneficial relationship with the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care Paramedic Program. The Redondo Beach Fire Department has enjoyed a lengthy and equally valuable relationship with the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care Paramedic Program. One aspect of this program is a ride-along provision for their students to accompany working field Paramedics in our Fire Department on emergency medical calls in Redondo Beach. The interaction between the students of the Program and our field Paramedics reinforces the student's classroom learning and enhances the skill levels of our Paramedics who have volunteered to act as preceptors and teachers.

COORDINATION
The City Attorney's Office has approved this Amendment as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact for the City's participation in this program. The Fire Department paramedics provide the ride-along experience during their regular on-duty shifts. There is no fiscal responsibility accepted by the City for any aspect of the student's participation during their ride-along experience.
