EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In December of 2023, the City received notice that the State of California set aside $5,000,000 for Redondo Beach to acquire land at the AES Power Plant site for the development of a public park and/or wetlands area.

The California State Department of Parks and Recreation has been delegated the responsibility for administering the City's grant funds and for setting up the procedures needed to govern the related grant application. Per the Department, approval and submission of the recommended Resolution is the next step in the grant process.

BACKGROUND
To receive the $5M of funds, the California Department of Parks and Recreation has asked the City to provide a resolution approving the submittal of a grant application. Following this step, the State will provide the City with a formal grant agreement.

COORDINATION
The proposed Resolution was reviewed and approved as to form by the City Attorney's Office. Once the Resolution is approved, the California Department of Parks and Recreation will provide the City with a contract. Once the contract is executed, the California Department of Parks and Recreation will formally award the $5,000,000 to the City of Redondo Beach.

FISCAL IMPACT
The grant will provide $5,000,000 in funding to the City to acquire land for a future park or wetlands area at the AES Power Plant site.

Mike Witzansky, City Manager
