EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In September 2019, the Police Department collaborated with the Redondo Beach Unified School District (RBUSD) to partially fund a Redondo Beach Police Officer position to work exclusively at Redondo Union High School. This agreement has provided a dedicated officer to the high school that is stationed on the campus and able to respond to calls for service or other incidents which impact Redondo Union High School. Approval of this First Amendment to the existing agreement will continue the existing collaboration for an additional two years strengthening the relationship and engagement between the Police Department and the students and staff of Redondo Union High School.

BACKGROUND
The Redondo Beach Police Department has assigned a Police Officer as the designated School Resource officer (SRO) for many years. The SRO position has been considered the primary responder for calls for service related to incidents that occur at RBUSD campuses and frequently developed relationships and consistently engaged with the students, staff, and faculty of RBUSD. In 2018, an additional SRO was added to the Police Department Community Services Unit with a focus on the Middle and Elementary schools of RBUSD. This assignment of personnel allowed for a primary responder and point of contact for both the High School and Middle and Elementary Schools. Although the SRO duties were considered the primary assignment of the two dedicated Police Officer positions, either position could be reassigned to other law enforcement duties in the City of Redondo Beach based upon priority staffing needs...
